As soon as Ludvig could sit and stand up regularly, every aspect of his life changed for the better. He was even able to fulfil his passion and go skiing and ice-skating in the winter without getting frostbite!
Ludvig is a 6-year-old boy who has been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, GMFCS V.
His parents’ hope is that in the future he will be able to move independently using assistive devices. Ludvig has no independent standing and walking functioning and he is not able to sit without support. His joint mobility is somewhat limited and he has muscular spasticity. Additionally, he has been diagnosed with therapy-resistant epilepsy and scoliosis.
Together with his physiotherapist, Ludvig’s parents started off with several objectives: to improve his bowel function, blood circulation, upper-body and leg strength and to improve his head control. They also hoped that an increase in level of activity would improve the quality of his sleep. The physiotherapist also wanted to prevent deformities due to his spasticity.
For more than a year Ludvig has been using the Innowalk at home, and he has already achieved many of the initial goals. For five days a week Ludvig uses the Innowalk for dynamic standing, for about 15-30 minutes a time. He now relies on his static standing frame only while in daycare.
“The Innowalk provides all-round training with good support, something no other assistive device can match. Ludvig loves to exercise in his Innowalk; he is proud and stretches his body in a way he never does in other forms of therapy. You can tell he feels more independent in the Innowalk and even when he is strapped in, he does not feel restricted.”
– Ludvig’s mother
He has started to initiate independent movements of his legs, both kicking and moving, - motions he never performed before he started using the device. Ludvig’s need for botulinum toxin has been reduced ever since he started using the Innowalk, and his dosage has been adjusted accordingly.
Ludvig’s mother tells the tale of a changed son. Thanks to the Innowalk, he is more eager to contribute at home, he is more active and overall very happy. His parents simply mentioning the Innowalk is enough to put a smile on his face, a testament to how much he cherishes life in motion.
