Nov 26, 2025Alvin benefits from a school schedule that includes daily Innowalk use
Back to Blog Overview
Alvin’s school routine has been adapted so he can use the Innowalk every day. His physiotherapist emphasises that regular movement and weight-bearing are essential for his health. To make this possible, Alvin finishes school a little earlier each afternoon, giving him the time and calm environment he needs to train safely in the Innowalk at home.

Alvin – a 17-year-old who loves when things are happening
Alvin has dyskinetic cerebral palsy with fluctuating muscle tone, which means his body can sometimes become both tense and difficult to control. Movements do not always come when he wants them to, and sometimes they take a different direction than he intends. But behind all this is a person who is just as curious, humorous and full of life as any other 17-year-old.
And above all – Alvin loves when things are happening.
Being part of activities, being social, and participating – that is something that means a lot to him. He thrives when he can be where people are, listen to music, laugh together and feel involved. This shows at home, at school and during activities outside.
His spare time is filled with variety: music quizzes, discos, crafts and ceramics. He loves game nights, especially Ludo – and everyone who has played with him knows that the game may sometimes involve a touch of creative cheating.
The first try-out with the Innowalk
Alvin has used the Innowalk since February 2020 — almost six years. It began when his parents discovered the device at the “RBU-The resource network for children & youth” conference in Stockholm, Sweden. After discussing it with his physiotherapist back home in Dalarna region, Alvin got to try it, and from the very first moment it became clear: this was something that worked.
Before this, Alvin used a standing aid with a tilt table and an arm-and-leg cycle, but the movements never felt truly natural. His body easily became tense and the weight-bearing uneven.
With the Innowalk, things changed:
- The movements became softer and more natural
- His body was supported in a more beneficial upright position
- The weight-bearing became better
And most importantly: Alvin enjoyed it. He never protested. On the contrary – he wanted to get in.
Innowalk - a natural part of everyday life
Today, Alvin uses the Innowalk at least once a day – often twice.
A session usually lasts about an hour. On weekends the rhythm is clear:
morning in the Innowalk → activity → afternoon in the Innowalk → another activity.
Effects of the Innowalk – noticed every day
Over time, the effects of the Innowalk have become evident in Alvin’s daily life. One of the first changes observed was how much better his digestion worked. The movement helped his body get going in a way that created calm, reduced stiffness and increased comfort. At the same time, Alvin has developed a more stable upper body and improved head control. He no longer needs to use his headrest, as his muscles now manage to support him far better.
His overall mobility has also improved. Regular weight-bearing and the rhythmic walking pattern help counteract stiffness and reduce the risk of contractures.
And perhaps most important – you can see that Alvin feels good when he stands in the Innowalk. He is often a cheerful person, but in the Innowalk something extra shines through. His body relaxes, his gaze softens, and he is present in the moment.
The effects of Innowalk, in short, include improved bowel function, a more stable upper body, improved head control, increased mobility, and enhanced general wellbeing.
A school schedule adapted to enable exercise
To ensure Alvin gets the movement his body needs, his school routine has been adjusted. His physiotherapist has written a certificate clearly stating that daily training in the Innowalk is essential for his health and function.
This means Alvin has a schedule that allows him to get home in time each day to use the Innowalk – not only as a training session, but as a fundamental part of his wellbeing.
This is unusual. Many children and young people receive adjustments related to school performance, but Alvin’s adaptation is about something even more basic:
- Preventing pain and stiffness
- Providing opportunities for physical activity
- Giving his body the best conditions for wellbeing
Everyone feels better when they move. The same applies to Alvin.
Without the Innowalk, his body would be much more tense and locked up.
Because the school and healthcare services have listened, understood and co-operated, Alvin has been able to continue living actively, participating, and being himself.
Movement is not something “extra” in his life – it is a prerequisite for his life to function.
Using it – easier than you think
In Alvin’s family’s experience, they were a little unsure at first about whether they’d manage the Innowalk, but that feeling quickly disappeared as they got comfortable with it.
After trying it a few times, the handling became a natural routine that is quick, smooth and stress-free.
One of Alvin’s care assistants tells us:
"It’s an incredibly cool device. Once you’ve learned it, it’s not complicated at all. It’s easy and smooth" – and Alvin comes up to our height.
There is something beautiful about the Innowalk helping Alvin reach the same height as his family and assistants. It creates eye contact. Presence. Connection.
You stand beside him — not above him — and that makes the interaction more equal and warm.
This attitude says a lot. The Innowalk doesn’t become a big project or a complicated training session – it becomes a natural part of daily life, just like eating or listening to music together.
And this very simplicity enables Alvin to use it every day, which is a major reason why the effects have become so clear over time.
The family’s advice: “If you get the chance to try the Innowalk – try it”
When Alvin gets to stand, come into an upright position and move – his whole life is affected in a positive way.
And that is exactly what makes the Innowalk so valuable.
It offers something many take for granted: the opportunity to be active — in his body, in movement, in life.
Alvin’s parents say it simply, but with weight:
“If you get the chance to try the Innowalk – try it. It is truly worth it. It may not suit everyone, but you have to give it a go.”
Because sometimes it is movement itself that makes the difference. And everyone deserves the opportunity to feel that.
