Every pupil deserves the opportunity to experience the physical, emotional and social benefits of meaningful movement. For many children and young people with complex physical needs, traditional physical activity can be difficult or inaccessible. The Innowalk Pro helps change that — enabling safe, supported, dynamic standing and movement as part of the school day.

Across the UK, many special schools are using the Innowalk Pro to support wellbeing, inclusion and participation for pupils with a wide range of needs. In this blog, we explore how SEN schools can access the Innowalk Pro and begin integrating movement into everyday school life.

Why movement matters in special schools and SEN settings

The Innowalk Pro is more than a piece of equipment — it’s a way to embed movement, engagement and inclusion into daily routines. By supporting the body in an upright, weight-bearing position and providing rhythmic movement close to a natural gait, pupils who cannot stand or walk independently can still experience the benefits of physical activity.

Schools already using the Innowalk Pro report positive changes not only in physical wellbeing, but also in alertness, mood and engagement. For many pupils, movement sessions help prepare them for learning and increase participation throughout the school day.

How to get started with the Innowalk Pro

Below are the main steps UK special schools and colleges can take to explore and access the Innowalk Pro.

Arrange a demonstration

The first step is usually to arrange a demonstration or consultation with the Made for Movement UK team. This allows schools to:

  • See the Innowalk Pro in use within a school context
  • Discuss pupil suitability and practical considerations
  • Explore how the device could support wellbeing, therapy and education goals

Each school is different, and demonstrations help ensure the right approach for your pupils and setting. For more information, please read our Innowalk Pro Demo information sheet.

Trial the Innowalk Pro in your school

Many settings choose to move forward with a 4–6-week trial or loan period. This gives staff the opportunity to:

  • Use the Innowalk Pro with pupils in real school routines
  • Understand how it fits into timetables and shared spaces
  • Build staff confidence through hands-on experience

Training and support are provided during the trial, helping staff feel safe and confident using the device. For more information, read our Loan for Schools information sheet.

Exploring funding and support options

As specialist equipment, the Innowalk Pro is often accessed through a combination of funding routes, such as:

  • Charitable grants
  • School fundraising initiatives
  • Contributions from therapy or local authority services

The Made for Movement UK team can support schools by providing information and documentation to help with funding applications.

Staff training and ongoing support after purchase

Training is an essential part of successful implementation. Made for Movement provides structured training to ensure safe, effective use, including:

  • Operator training covering setup, adjustments and safe handling
  • Guidance on integrating sessions into everyday school practice

With trained staff in place, the Innowalk Pro can be used regularly without the need for a therapist to be present at every session. Read more about our Innowalk Pro operator training and our Train the Trainer course

Bringing the Innowalk Pro into daily school life

Once in place, the Innowalk Pro can become a natural part of the school day. Schools often:

  • Schedule short movement sessions during lessons or therapy blocks
  • Share access between classes so more pupil's benefit
  • Use sessions to support alertness, posture and readiness for learning

Over time, many schools see wider benefits across wellbeing, engagement and inclusion.

Learning from other special schools

Special schools already using the Innowalk Pro describe it as a powerful tool for enabling access to movement for pupils with complex needs. Staff frequently highlight improvements in motivation, mood and participation, alongside the physical benefits of regular dynamic standing and movement. You can read about some reference schools and how they use Innowalk Pro here.
